    Somerset AGM Proposals

    Wyvern Club - Monday 7th July 2014 - starts 7:30 pm

All welcome - small buffer available

The following league proposals will be discussed at the AGM

    Proposal by League Organiser:

    Proposal 1

There are now only 16 teams in the Somerset Squash League and to try and increase the number of teams and hence maintain the current league structure – I propose that we reduce number of players per team to 4, this will make it easier for clubs with 2 courts to have 2 teams at home as matches will be shorter – Please note, I would only want to implement this providing clubs are able to increase the number of teams that they enter.

So please can you discuss this within each club and let me know prior to the AGM how many teams you could enter if there were 4 players per team compared with the current five.

Also in conjunction with this – I propose that we also change the scoring to par 11 (2 clear) and 5 games (not best of 5) and remove the 3 points for a win – so each game would count towards the team score – Maximum 20 points (for four 5 -0 games).

    Proposal 2

Due to a number of incidents during this season where teams have clearly played players in the wrong order within the team, I propose:

At the beginning of the season each team will submit a team order to the league secretary – this order should ideally match the Somerset league rankings. Teams must then play players in the same order for the first half of the season. Any new player entering the team during the season should be positioned within the team appropriate to their ranking; if a new player does not have a league ranking then the team must contact the league secretary to agree their position within the team. These team orders will be displayed on the Somerset League website and can be checked by the opposing team captain – if the team plays a player out of the agreed order – all team points below this player will be deducted.

This process is used in a number of leagues within the Southwest!

Please can you make sure that your club is represented at the AGM as we will vote and agree/disagree with the proposals above.

The league secretary and chairman will adjust the league rules accordingly if these proposals are accepted.
