    Somerset Cup Rules

    Somerset Cup & Plate Rules 2014/15

    Cup and plate competition is a standard part of the Somerset Squash calendar and will be handicapped based on the current league position. 

    As agreed at AGM teams start with points as shown below: 

    Division 1 = -3
    Division 2 = 0
    Division 3 = +3
    Division 4 = +6 

    So Div 1 Team vs Div 4 Team  = Div 1 (-3) & Div 4 (+6)
    If Div 3 team plays Div 4 team then Div 3 would start on 0 and Div 4 on +3 

    Rules 

    1. Scoring will be PAR (points per rally). Matches will be best of 5 with PAR scoring to 15 (No clear points required).

    2. Teams will be automatically entered into the Cup. First /Second round losers will automatically be entered into the plate competition.
       
    3. The cup fixtures will be scheduled throughout the season with the first round & second round matches being allocated before Christmas - dates for further rounds will be indicated on the fixture list.
       
    4. Team composition players must have played at least one game in the league for the team, prior to the date of the first round cup match, to be eligible to play in the first round of the cup. For subsequent rounds players must have played at least 3 times in the league for the team unless otherwise agreed by the League Secretary.
       
    5. Players who have already played for a team in the cup competition are not permitted to play for a different team in the same competition (Cup or Plate).
       
    6. Failure to comply with any of the above may result in the offending team forfeiting the match.
       
    7. Results should be sent to the League Secretary (within 1 week of the result), who will post the next fixtures on the league results website - under News.
       
    8. Teams who move division between Autumn and Spring will acquire the handicap relating to their current league when the match is played
       
    9. Teams are randomly placed into the draw using computer software to create a random list of teams
       
    10. Teams identified in red will be the home team and in agreement with the away team captain, food and drink will be shared. If the home team is unable to provide courts then in agreement with the away captain, the game can either be played at a mutually agreed venue or at the away teams home venue
       
    11. 4th Division teams who currently play with 4 players in league will be required to enter 5 players in the cup matches – rule 4 does not apply to the 5th player but rule 5 still applies
       
    12. Any issues identified during the competition and  not covered by the rules above will be resolved by the Somerset SRA Committee
